With her imposing yet inviting stage presence, Argentine-Mapuche singer Beatriz Pichi Malen represents the voice of Wallmapu music at the 2020 version of Tocatas Mil with a concert including songs from her impressive musical career, reflecting the important work she has done seeking out, compiling and spreading her people’s culture.

Bringing the Mapuche arts to the world
Beatriz Pichi Malen is an artist and singer with Mapuche roots who performs in her native language. She was born in 1953 in Los Toldos in the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina and has spent her life researching, reviving and spreading her people’s culture. She began her career as an artist in the nineties, after the Rockefeller Foundation invited her to take part in the IV Congress for Women in Manhattan. She has released four albums, inspired Chilean singers such as Ana Tijoux and Nano Stern and toured the world brining Mapuche music to different countries and continents.
