Los navegantes del sueño is a moving interactive parade of actors, acrobats and highly decorated floats that charm the public by performing, spinning around and letting imagination run wild. It’s a playful and contemporary parade based on a group of men of the sea who chart their way through the crowds in search of their final destination: the island of Utopia, the place where dreams become reality. A troupe of sailors, buccaneers, castaways and swimmers move around to the enchanting sound of music and, in between bubbles and colored lights, navigate their way to utopia, teaching people to celebrate along the way. Utopia means to celebrate life, love and happiness and, above all, the ability to dream and sail away of the wings of fantasy. This is a celebration that evokes life, fantasy and games; an unforgettable show that moves down the street accompanied by the audience.

Teatroonirus is a theater company founded in 2007 that is dedicated to researching different forms of expression related to the theater, whether at venues or in unconventional locations. To date, they have premiered 16 shows, including El principito (2015), the dramatized concert Pedrito y el lobo (2016) and Las mil y una noches (2016), all co-produced by the Santiago Municipal Theater, as well as Tito Andrónico, a street theater version of Shakespeare’s play. The company is particularly interested in actors’ physical work, working with fairy tales and public interventions.


Horacio Videla Montero


A theater director with a career spanning many years, Horacio Videla is renowned for his ability to create shows whose style is articulated through how different forms of expression are arranged. His work also reflects an interest in cultural decentralization, reflected in his country-wide tours. In the eighties, he was a founding member of Gran Circo Teatro and acted in the legendary play La negra Ester (1988). Among his most outstanding shows are Juana de Arco, el misterio de la luz (2000) by Coca Duarte and La niña y los sortilegios (2007) with his Teatroonirus company.

  • Teatroonirus are leaders in Chile of large-scale street theater shows. Several of their pieces have been included in Santiago a Mil, including Y quién no sabe cómo es un dragón, El país de Jauja and Magia austral, bringing together more than 150,000 spectators. Thousands of people have watched their shows throughout Santiago and in the rest of the country.

  • The show is directed by Horacio Videla, a theater director with a career spanning many years who specializes in public interventions and large-scale parades. Videla has been in charge of nine Paris Parades (the largest Christmas parade in South America) and of street theater productions such as Altazor, pasajero de su destino (2010) and Tito Andrónico, un Shakespeare en espacio público (2017).

  • Los navegantes del sueño is a show that involves actors, stilt walkers, costumes, acrobatics and technicians. It’s been performed to thousands of people in different Chilean cities. Although it’s mobile, it’s also a walking celebration of theater, music and performance, a celebration that takes place in the heart of the community and an opportunity for the performing arts to bring people together.

  • The play is about a group of sailors, buccaneers and swimmers with travel through the city looking for the mythical island of Utopia, a place where you don’t have to work or pay taxes and where the only law is love. It deals with the importance of following your dreams, fighting for what you love and feel and not letting obstacles get in your way.

  • The parade covers around 800 meters and involves the following floats and characters: El barquito de burbujas, a metal structure carrying three sailors that leaves bubbles in its wake; La virgen del viento, a structure 2.5 meters high moved by three other women on which an actress travels; El carro porta audio; La hada marina, two actresses on 80 centimeter high stilts and La sirena que vuela por los aires, a metal structure that is shaped like a spider, as well as other characters whose job is to get the public involved by taking photos and interacting with them.
  • Passacaglia. Passacaglia has a dual meaning: it’s either an old courtesan dance developed in Spain or a kind of music with a very lively rhythm that music groups and street musicians used to play at popular seventeenth century street festivals. This term is used nowadays to refer to street theater shows that involve live music.

  • Street theater. This is the name given to outdoor theater presentations in public which don’t charge an entrance fee, performed on urban stages so a large number of people can see them. It emerged as a way of emancipating the working-class and reinforcing the revolutionary feeling against the powers-that-be at the beginning of the twentieth century. Later, it was developed as a way of making theater more democratic and of taking it to different parts of the city.
