Santiago a Mil is an event that welcomes all approaches and cultures. It’s an invitation to take part in unique events, share unforgettable experiences and to start conversations based on multiple artistic forms.
Every January since 1994, the capital and different cities in Chile become the perfect setting for the performing arts and for different audiences to come together. For three weeks, the festival is held, an exceptional event for contemporary creations, with a high level of artistic excellence and productions that are extremely relevant, both socially and politically.
Each version is made up of outstanding pieces from Chile and abroad, all of which are permanently exploring, pushing the limits, mixing and creating new versions of theater, dance, music, performance, circus, visual arts and the cinema - just some of the different styles from around 25 different countries. Artists such as Pina Bausch, Ariane Mnouchkine, Royal de Luxe, Robert Wilson, Christoph Marthaler, Jan Fabre, Krystian Lupa, Ivo van Hove, Romeo Castellucci, Lemi Ponifasio and Thomas Ostermeier, have all taken part in the festival.
Santiago a Mil also breaks down the country’s territorial, economic and social barriers, taking its free program to 20 Metropolitan Region neighborhoods and 15 of the country’s cities.

Santiago a Mil is more than just a listing of different shows. It’s also an event where ideas, dialogue and reflection find a place. Through LAB Escénico, artists, students and audiences come together in workshops and open conversations to think about the task at hand and theatrical experiences as a whole.
Programmers, producers and professionals from all over the world also come together at the PLATEA Programmers Week, a platform aimed at promoting the production, touring and programming of contemporary shows.
The Santiago a Mil International Festival is organized by the Teatro a Mil Foundation and presented in conjunction with Escondida/BHP. It’s supported by the Ministries of Culture, Arts and Heritage and also made possible thanks to a collaborative network made up of public institutions, private companies, international bodies, theater venues, artists, the media and suppliers.
